Have you ever heard of this great female warrior?

Yaa Asantewaa who my daughter is named after led an uprising against the British in 1900 ......watch this video about this inspiring woman.

5 months

The first 5 months flew by, I felt emancipated from the relaxer and was able to enjoy my natural thick hair. My only problem on the journey so far has been minor dandruff but I am trying to combat it with drinking lots of water and exercise. I don't cover my locks at night as they just get all mushed down I just give them a quick spritz every morning and off I go!! Is there anyone else out there who doesn't cover their locks? Not many people have realised I have sisterlocks yet they assume I have twists. The second picture is the day before a much needed retightening, on an 8 week retightening schedule.

2 months

This was my first attempt of an updo...which my daughter did for me.

First retightening

At my first retightening in September I had no slippage and if I remember correctly my consultant installed 2 new locks.I found it quite difficult to braid and band my hair so got my daughter to wash my hair for me. My hair had already started to change and a few of the locks were developing curly q's at the ends.

sisterlocked for 2 weeks

My first 2 weeks went very well no slippage or problems, here I am at the beach at Whitstable enjoying the sun!! I'm sorry the pictures are not too clear but they were taken with my mobile phone.

Installation

After much research I found a wonderful, wonderful consultant who installed my 565 babies! TAKE NOTE...it is really important to find the right consultant. You will spend hours in her company, I am so lucky my consultant has a fantastic spirit, is very professional ( no popping to the shops or taking phonecalls) and is very talented at her job. While trying to find a consultant I made many calls with often no call backs, come on ladies this really is no way to conduct your business!

The Beginning Part 2

I am now 10 months into my sisterlock journey and will post pictures from the last 10 months in the next few days.......... but I have good news my daughter has now decided to get sisterlocks installed. So she will be giving you a teenagers perspective on life and sisterlocks!! She had her consultation yesterday and her installation date is in a fortnight. I feel so happy she is going to be free from using chemical relaxers, who knows the damage relaxers can cause to our bloodstream, if they are so powerful they can disentegrate a coke can!

The beginning

After 25 years of being a slave to hair relaxer, I finally decided to take the kinks out of my mind not my hair!!! by embracing my beautiful, natural God given hair. After researching sisterlocks I decided they were the way to go allowing my hair to grow in a healthy way. I went for the big chop in August 2010. I had 1 years of natural growth and cut off relaxed hair which reached my shoulders.
